In 2009 Jack Twist's first novel was shortlisted in the final four of the ABC's National Fiction Award. In the following year the same novel was shortlisted in the final ten of the HarperCollins National Varuna competition for fiction.
In 1970 Jack was conscripted into the Australian Army and served in the Vietnam War the following year. The ideas behind The Mutiny at Long Phuoc Hai come from that experience.
