Voiceless is the extraordinary true story of Marie McCreadie, who is inexplicably struck mute throughout her teenage years. Marie discovers the true colours of her community, as she struggles with the general disbelief and social ostracism caused by her unexplainable condition. Throughout years of hardship, pain and rejection, Marie turns to herself and finds the inner strength she never knew she had.
When doctors discover the cause more than a decade later, Marie finally recovers her voice and her ‘miracle’ makes headlines across Australia. But that isn’t the end of her journey.

Thanks Marie for sending me a copy of your book Voiceless (InHouse Publishing). Thanks too for all the kind words you said about me in Chapter 13 and I appreciate the lovely inscription on the inside cover. Hope it’s a best seller!
Hi Marie sweetheart, I never realised what you went through, don’t suppose anyone does. Where you got the strength from at your age and courage one never knows. I think you are an inspiration to others.
I just love you. I love your book. I want to imagine I would be a friend sneaking out of Mass to hug you. I can relate to you in so many ways. I never lost my voice, but felt that separation internally as a teen.
You have wonderful good moments too, that I lighted when I read, “Bring a plate to the Barbie”, and you bring empty ones. Planning to meet David Cassidy in his room?
Oh, honey, I really would hug you. The church has pushed you around enough. You speak fairly and how they treated you was very unfair and even unchristian.
Looking for a good book to read on your holiday then I can recommend this book. I went to primary school with the writer of this book, she emigrated to Australia and in her teenage years was struck mute. Read Marie's story you won't be disappointed xxxx

Powerful read: Voiceless by Marie McCreadie. I met Marie in the 1980s when I was a journalist. She had an incredible and inspiring story. A tiny charm in a pudding rendered her speechless. But this was only one of many challenges she had to overcome.
