This is Andrew's 12th book since his retirement 20 years ago and reflects his ongoing interest in the future. Age, experience and a natural cynicism are all reflected in this novel, perhaps better described as twin-linked novellas. One envisions an almost perfect world where war and violence are mostly horrors of the past, while the other paints sadly a more likely scenario of death, destruction and ultimate Armageddon. Of course both of these extreme positions are unlikely in the short term, but at ninety plus Andrew is more concerned with longer term outcomes. Kate Caro's poem provides a poetic perspective.
