Melita

I was hooked on this entire book. What a crazy ride it had been reading through everything that took place, from the early beginnings of Melita's story in her teenage years to the coronavirus pandemic period, and the years that took place in between. This book is almost like a story from a self-help book, where you can see examples of concepts such as what a toxic relationship is, avoidance attachment style, familial relationship patterns, and inner child healing.

I felt many emotions while reading through this book. I felt pity and frustration for the characters, while at the same time, I could understand why and how they became to be who they are. It is, after all, hard to break patterns, especially if you are someone who grew up without the right role models in your life. I enjoyed how the author wrote the chapters of the book; even as the time period jumped between the present and the past, it all made sense and was easy to follow. Through all the events in the book, the ending was a bittersweet surprise.

Overall, I can say that this book was definitely worth a read. I recommend it!

A beautifully woven story about what happens when families are torn apart by shame, lies and hidden wounds. Gill has an amazing talent in writing delicate stories that require so much love and detail. A delicate puzzle slowly put together by Gill, all in the form of a beautiful yet very heartbreaking story. A true lesson hidden amongst the pages, that life is too short to let our resentment leave us with deep regret and unspoken words of love. Another brilliant read by Gill!

The writing in this book is exceptional. Not only do Gill's words pull at your heart strings, the rhythm and flow of her writing is truly hypnotic!

Melita carries her trauma bonds throughout her life and sadly dumps her issues straight onto her only daughter Emily. Tragic, yet powerful and at the same time it ends on a hopeful note. For anyone with a mother wound, this is a must read. Definitely the most powerful of all four of Gill's books.

Melita is a powerful mother /daughter story that makes your heart ache for both of them due to the authors uncanny way of making you empathise equally with both parties. At times I wanted to throttle Melita and other times I wanted to wrap her in a hug. Powerful writing which I suspect may come from the heart.
