I first met Attila Kaszo, or Bisckos as he was known then, in 1985, almost 40 years ago.
I was working in Client Services at Channel 7’s film laboratory, ATLAB, and Attila had just finished his first 16mm feature length documentary, ‘The Grey Nurse in Perspective’, which highlighted how this harmless species was being threatened, due mainly to general ignorance. He has always been a firm advocate of Nature Preservation.
Attila’s first underwater pictures were taken in 1969, using a Kodak Instamatic camera.
It was a new frontier for Attila, both exciting and filled with awe.
The problem for Attila however, was that his early images failed to adequately reflect this.
Wind the clock forward 54 years and you have ‘Beneath The Surface’, a beautifully presented
coffee table size book that showcases my dear friend’s commitment to excellence.
From the many thousands of pictures he has taken, 189 stunningly beautiful images grace the pages of ‘Beneath The Surface’.
Attila says, “I think they are probably the most representative of the work I do, and they, like me, are in flux, so there could be some surprises along the way.”
After having seen this book first hand, I couldn’t agree more.
If you love the ocean and the world beneath the surface of this spinning blue planet, this book is for you.
