The Fearless Soul

One hand, one bare foot, the next hand, the next bare foot, the left hand, then slip — that was it, the moment that changed my life.

Falling down a cliff at such speed approaching the bottom of the cliff where the barnacles lie, and the tide is coming in. Landing with bare feet first on the sharp barnacles slicing my foot and my hands as I fell. Breaking my foot and compacting my spine from the impact of the fall. Falling backwards cutting my head and breaking bones in my neck.

Still conscious, awake and in shock trying to stand to find help but with every attempt to stand and call for help my body wouldn’t allow it. In that moment I could no longer stand, walk, twist, sit or bend; my backbone was broken. The bone that was meant to be my body’s central support structure was no longer in its ideal shape.

Little did I know this was just the beginning of what would be the start of one of my rather long journeys; the journey that would shape me into the person I am today. The journey that was happening whether I was ready or not.
