A Dog Watch is a tale of drunken debauchery on the high seas, as told from the perspective of the ship’s dog. Well, more truthfully, the calmer waters of a few northern Queensland marinas, on a small power cruiser. But the point is the same. This is a warts-and-all depiction of how my comfortable life was suddenly thrown to the four winds, only to be replaced by a life of living on a boat. Welcome aboard our journey and please accept that this is not a tale for more junior readers. Nor is it a story of human (or canine) endeavour, or of overcoming extreme adversity. Rather, it demonstrates the highs and the lows we both welcomed and endured, respectively, to try to make our newfound waterborne life an exciting and rewarding one. I hope my tale inspires in some way. If not, well then, just enjoy the ride of the waves that brought me to stand my watch, alongside my flawed best friend.
